Brief

Standing out among the wide variety of beer in the market is definitely important with the boom of craft beer in the Chicagoland area. The increasing number of brands on store shelves is exciting but at the same time, it adds a lot of pressure. Our task is to create something that is consistent across all channels while also having a unique approach to capturing the attention of the audience.

Process

Convier Collective worked to develop a brand that has an edge to stay true to the team's personality. The beer names are inspired by the judicial nuances, and visually, the designs tie to the exotic ingredients and worldly influences of art and culture.

The brand has a sophisticated yet playful expression using bold colors, simple graphics and fonts that relate each beer style back to the core brand for a consistent look and feel.

The tagline, “You Be the Judge” — is a reminder that it’s up to each individual to decide for themselves what type of beer they want to enjoy.

Results

Banging Gavel, being a start-up, has gained a lot of traction in the local market with their unique brand. The Banging Gavel Crew is getting their beer out into the public eye through local distribution and involvement in the craft beer festival scene. Attendees at local events are exposed to Banging Gavel and are reminded of it when they take a picture of the signage and grab a coaster or a sticker for their kegerator at home. And most importantly, on the shelves, the packaging and brand message is consistent with what they experience in person.

In 2016, the beer La Ley was mentioned on porchdrinking.com as a favorite during the annual Chicago Beer Festival, where there were over 150 different types of beers to try.
